The purpose of this section of the website is to highlight what to my mind are the most extraordinary music making instances of the most extraordinary Ukrainian musical artists, representing thereby the absolute pinnacle: The best of the best.
What I aim to provide here, then, are two pages on which anyone visiting this website—especially for the first time—will be able to experience in succinct form, what I feel are the most characteristic of the wide-ranging excellencies that make up the Ukrainian music making world.

Julian Kytasty & Michael Alpert
Old World traditions from neighboring villages in Ukraine meet up again on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, so to speak. Julian Kytasty, distinguished North American heir of the Ukrainian Bandura/Kobza Tradition, joins musical forces with Michael Alpert, “a leading Yiddishist and pioneer of the klezmer revival” (to quote from the Ukrainian-Jewish Encounter website). Not everything on this recording works as well as this particular selection, but this particular selection does definitely work very well.
